Connect Deepgram
A housekeeper can report a room by voice while their hands are full. With Deepgram connected and registered for business data, Hospitality can transcribe supported staff and vendor voice notes from the business line for the agent to process as text.
Guest audio is not currently transcribed. The agent asks for a text version instead. Connecting Deepgram does not enable every incoming voice note or change the workspace’s message-delivery rules.
You need: a Deepgram project, permission to create a key, and available credits or billing for transcription. Usage is charged to your Deepgram project; check its balance and plan rather than assuming a free tier will cover ongoing use.
Step 1 — Create an API key in Deepgram
Follow Deepgram’s API-key guide:
- Sign in to the Deepgram console and select the intended Project.
- Open Settings → API Keys → Create a New API Key.
- Give it a recognizable name, such as Tangle Hospitality. Choose a role that permits transcription without unnecessary project-management access. Deepgram’s key-management guidance describes the default role as suitable for most production keys; broad Admin or Owner permissions are not needed just to transcribe audio.
- Choose an expiration appropriate to your rotation plan. An expired key will stop working, so arrange a replacement before that date.
- Create the key and copy its secret while it is shown. It cannot be shown again.
Step 2 — Connect and register it in your workspace
- Open your Hospitality workspace as an owner or manager and go to Integrations → Business integrations.
- Choose Deepgram, paste the key, and connect.
- On the active connection, choose Use for business data, then confirm the registration. No extra provider fields are needed for Deepgram, but this separate step is required before Hospitality uses it for audio.
- Check that the row confirms business data uses this connection.
Step 3 — Confirm it’s working
From an enrolled staff or vendor phone, send a short supported voice note to the connected business line. Check that the conversation includes the transcribed content. Whether a reply is sent also depends on the workspace’s mode and delivery controls.
If the audio is not transcribed, check business-data registration, key expiry, project permissions, and credits. Ask the sender for text while resolving it.
Good to know
- Audio submitted for transcription is sent to Deepgram using your key and follows your Deepgram plan and data settings.
- Tangle stores the key encrypted and does not display it again in the workspace. The key’s underlying project permissions still apply outside Tangle.
- Removing the key’s creator from the Deepgram project disables their keys. Replace and verify affected keys before changing project membership.
- Disconnect in Integrations to stop using this connection, or revoke the key in Deepgram to invalidate the credential.
